RECORD DONATIONS ENABLE MARSH TO BOOST ‘KEEPING ABREAST’ FUNDS BY MORE THAN £21,000.00

At our Queens Road site in Norwich, Marsh, the world’s leading risk and insurance services firm, annually opens its car park to members of the public during the festive period, with the proceeds supporting a local charity.

Employee Stuart Palmer proposed Keeping Abreast, a charity which both he and his wife Paula had been heavily involved with since her breast cancer diagnosis in May 2007. It was chosen, by staff, as the beneficiary before Paula sadly passed away in November 2009.

At an emotional presentation evening last month, Keeping Abreast were handed a cheque for £21,850. Trustee and co-founder Beverley Birritteri said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We really just couldn't believe the amount they had raised. I think we all nearly dropped down when they told us how much it was. We're just so grateful for all they have done.”

Celebration: Record donations for Keeping AbreastThe charity offers practical advice and support for women who are facing the prospect of mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer. This donation will enable them to expand their support network and assist with a major conference in Norwich during September this year.

Stuart Palmer said: “I'm very, very proud and touched by it all, but it's tinged with sadness that Paula's not here to see or celebrate it. She would have been staggered.” He also wished to thank his Marsh & Capita colleagues and other volunteers who gave their time voluntarily to staff the car park during what was one of the coldest winters of the past thirty years.

Alan Cross, Chairman of the Marsh Norwich Sports & Social club, added: “We were overwhelmed by the generous donations made by local public and members of staff alike. The news of Stuart's bereavement undoubtedly gave those that volunteered, over the 15 day opening period, the drive and enthusiasm to achieve our biggest ever total. We are delighted and incredibly proud that our fundraising will make such a significant difference to this charity.”
