A reputation for responsibility
In the 2011 FTSE4Good index announced last week, Aviva was recognised as the top insurance company for corporate responsibility in the world, out of more than 100 other organisations in our sector. Our environmental, social and governance (ESG) rating is our sector’s only 100% score.
The whole of Aviva group is included in this research and our score is testament to the huge improvement we've made in our performance this year. Aviva was rated as the top company in our sector (non-life and life assurance companies) and we were the only company in our sector to obtain an overall ESG rating score of 100 out of 100.
The FTSE4Good scoring model measures each company against six ESG themes, including;
- environmental management
- climate change
- human and labour rights
- supply chain labour standards
- corporate governance
- countering bribery
These ratings are used by investors to understand corporate risks and performance and to understand the achievement of long-term, sustainable investment returns.
The FTSE4Good ranking was announced on the same day as the Reputation Institute's 2011 rankings, which place Aviva as the UK's “most reputable” financial services company.
Both are a credit to us and our commitment to sustainable business, helping us towards becoming our customers' most recommended brand.

In other news, Aviva's name has surfaced as the most reputable insurer in the UK, according to a new survey of Britain's top companies by the Reputation Institute.
The survey rated Aviva as the UK's most reputable financial services provider and we came 46th overall, based on scores in the following categories:
- financial performance
- products
- innovation
- workplace
- governance
- citizenship
- leadership
